December: A Month of Community & Service
WHY Is Supporting Our Community So Important?
The Why
While the answer might FEEL obvious, it’s a question that is usually answered in different ways, by different people. For some, it might just be the right thing to do. For others, it’s giving back through a program that made a significant difference in their own journey. Your “WHY” should be personal, since it’s the most powerful part of you that can show up for others!
We live in a macro culture of being self-sufficient, and that asking for help, especially when we really need it, can feel embarrassing and even shameful. But that shouldn’t be the case. We all have bad days, weeks, months, years and seasons in our life – that is just part of the human experience! But when we offer help and are able to receive help in those harder times, it’s a truly wonderful gift to everyone involved.
At NTI, community support and outreach are at the foundation of our WHY as an organization. As much as we like to nerd out about insurance and finding solutions, it’s not what gets us out of bed in the morning, usually. We want to be successful and be able to share that blessing with the people and community around us! We believe in the power of irrational generosity and making an intentionally positive difference.
Irrational Generosity: Bringing value, uplifting, celebrating, giving generously, without expectation of return. With our blessings and abilities, we think of others first.
The How
Regardless of your WHY, the how aspect of supporting can often seem daunting. With so many organizations, missions and specialties, finding the right vessel for service is often where many people feel stuck. NTI is very proud of the organizations we partner with, but we also chose with care and consideration. We recommend just reaching out to at least one organization this month and find out more about their why and how they’d benefit from your support.
Whether they’d like your financial donations, volunteer actions or even in an area you don’t expect, different organizations thrive in different ways! Here’s just a few of the community organizations that are near and dear to our hearts:
Stories UNCOVERED
A mind and heart altering experiment: Sharing stories of people overcoming shame, a secret or some sort of struggle; to then inspire hope and healing! Director Nicole Mischke is a past reporter on a mission to remind people that they are more than the sum of their negative experiences or failures. Nicole creates incredible, documentary style presentations, that give the storyteller an opportunity to share their struggle and how they are taking back ground in their own lives.
This gives the storyteller freedom from their shame, but also inspires hope and a greater sense of community to all the eyes and hearts watching. NTI regularly hosts a showing of Nicole’s latest work, so keep an eye out for those announcements! You can learn more about Nicole’s work here.
Adult & Teen Challenge
A non-profit dedicated to putting hope within reach of every person struggling with addiction, through long-term residential discipleship. They are a faith-based, one-year, residential discipleship program with the purpose to restore hope to those who suffer from addiction as well as other serious, life-controlling issues. Going far above and beyond the struggle for sobriety, adult & teen challenge members have dedicated themselves to rebuild the humans beneath the addition and giving them a second chance at life!
In Spokane, we can see the pain and brokenness that follows addiction, on a daily basis. Our team is very passionate about this mission and usually supports it through a sponsored golf event with our clients, charity auctions and by just spending time with the students going through the program! If this organization aligns with your why and you’d be interested in helping, you can get more information here, or connect with NTI for additional resources!
Kiwanis Club – Spokane
Kiwanis Clubs are a notably recent addition to our organization’s list of community partners, but certainly a welcomed one! The clubs are dedicated to elevating our youth and giving them opportunities to grow and succeed. Youths in high school are taught about leadership and responsibility, through acts of service and volunteerism in our communities.
Through fundraising and putting on numerous events, these children gain valuable skills, while earning prized grants and Key Club scholarships for college. Our Team volunteered a shift at the Kiwanis food booth at the Spokane County Interstate Fair and had an absolute blast! The booth is a key fundraiser, and they could always use more volunteers! Here’s their website to look into!

We encourage you to consider finding an organization or mission to support this holiday season and beyond. You never know how much your dollars, hours or smiles will go, in the effort to build up the people around you! From our NTI family to yours, Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!
